You have been there before... in the fact so many times...
How many time when you attended a seminar, discussion, training etc, and either the speaker spoke on something you are interested in or never heard before? Have you had the urge to ask 1 or 2 or several questions?
Or in the training you attended, you are encouraging to volunteer to do a Role-Playing scenario? What do you do? Excuse yourself to visit the toilet?
At that moment in time, 20 seconds is what it take for you to do the first step to change. But you have never done that before, your heart is beating very fast, what if the question you want to ask, is a "Stupid Question"? or so basic that everybody know the answer except you?
That 20 seconds is what separates you from stagnant knowledge and comfort zone to Growth and possibilities.
Don't underestimate your brain to change in that 20 seconds. Your body vibration once you forgo the chances of embarrassing yourself to really learn, ask, volunteer is what you need.

But the first thing you must change is your MINDSET, which is the most difficult.
From today onwards, you need to tell yourself every single day, if you fail to CHANGE, you are wasting your life. Time wait for no man(woman also).
To put yourself in a position where you are vulnerable, uncomfortable, lack of confidence is Scary but it is a MUST if you want to have a chance to CHANGE and to be better or succeed.
But before I ask you to seek out a Coach. Maybe you should ask yourself Difficult Questions as a practice. For people who have not been coached before, a good coach will ask you the same thing, maybe more direct or hurtful, to get to the truth to correct your thinking.

In this Covid 19 pandemic period, I have the chance to really sit down, evaluate what I want to do in the next stage of my life. Having βsurvivedβ almost 30 years in this extremely competitive Insurance industryβ¦. I really feel that I can benefit or help anyone who are frank enough to admit they need help. I saw, (some I know personally) a lot of people coming into this industry, with a lot of hope and aspirations, they want to be successfulβ¦ but after a while, whether they taste success or notβ¦.there come a time that they feel lost or at a plateau.
Looking around, they are not much friends or colleagues who they can discuss with. May it be, because of pride or ego or both. The person who recruited them, they are either too detach to understand what the agents are going through or they are too young and inexperienced to point the agents to the right direction.
Here is where Coaching will be helpful. But I want to touch a little bit on the relationship between the Coach and Coachee.
There must be 100% trust and honesty in the relationship. The Coachee must believe that the Coach has only 1 goal in mind, that is to produce a better you.
The communication must be 2 ways. Anything the Coach suggest the Coachee to do, and if the Coachee is not really or not comfortable doing, the Coachee has the courage to bring up in your coaching sessions.

Trust me, I was a new agent beforeβ¦.and back then, the kind of training we were exposed to is not like now, more variety and more comprehensive.
Borrowing Les Brown taglineβ¦β¦ βI was young and I was hungryβ.
Add that to naive, broke and full of confidence in ourselves to attempt what most people at that time (early 90s) would be crazy, that is to βSell Insuranceβ.
But because of our youth and good learning attitude that resulted in a good fundamentals and foundations to last longer.
Because we know from day 1 it is not easy. And to do well is a different story all together.
We learn to cultivate discipline, daily routine, commitment to a weekly activities goals, and have the urgency to monitor efforts vs results and to twitch or modify ourselves to improve.
That was just the beginning. We are exposed to so many concepts, methology, eg, Brian Tracy, Bob Proctor, Zig Ziglar, Al Granum One Card System, Sales Builder Study Group etc.
All exposure taught us one thingβ¦. Selling is not Luck, Successful Selling is also not Luck. Talking more or we called it βTellingβ is not Sellingβ¦β¦but over the years, we learned to appreciate βAskingβ or more accurately βAsking good questionsβ is Selling.β¨β¨So if want to succeed in Salesβ¦β¦better learn how to ask good questionsβ¦..
Ask yourself βAre you Hungry?β to improve, to more knowledge, to better Communications Skills, can you βbeatβ the guy next door?
Most of the time when our prospect doesnβt buy from us, it is easy or convenient to assume the prospect buy from competitive companies, it will be shocking to some of you, that the prospect bought from your colleagues from other agencies.

To attempt something you already know will be difficultβ¦. like a new agent, entering an industry that is competitive with a small market in Singapore.
One should NEVER expect it to be easy. Every prospect you meet, (unless it is your own family, even that cannot guarantee a smooth case) you are βfightingβ against at least 2 to 5 βcompetitorsβ, some are from your own company.

You will be disappointed....
To be like your boss, or some friends or Senior colleagues who are doing wellβ¦β¦you need to put in more effort, knowledge, skills, that multiply by tΝiΝmΝeΝ Ν(ΝyΝeΝaΝrΝsΝ)Ν may get you who you want to go.
Lastly, my advice for people who are new, regardless of age. Please donβt waste your precious time searching for a shortcutβ¦..
In this business, Hardwork is the only shortcut.
If you have not heard a famous quote, βThe ONLY place you can find SUCCESS before WORK is in the Dictionaryβ.
If you donβt know what it takes, how hard must you work, and how long must you persevereβ¦. you can either (1)puck up your courage and ask people you know who you feel that are doing well. (I know you donβt know them, we have saying βHow Hungry are you?β to breakthrough your comfort zone, to find out, how to position yourself to get am opportunity to ask them, get them to give you some advice or pointers to start working at improving yourselfβ¦.
or (2) find yourself a Good Coach to teach a lot of βHOWβ rather than βWHATβ which you have plenty with most Trainers, Professional Speakersβ¦
That is what I have this weekβ¦β¦stay safe, time is precious, use it well
